Lesson 1 of 3
Two ways of writing
🔠
Boko and Ajami
Hausa has two writing traditions. Ajami is Hausa written in Arabic letters, used for poetry, letters and religious teaching long before European contact. Boko is the Latin-letter spelling introduced under British rule in the early twentieth century, and it is now standard in schools, newspapers and the internet.

ɓ ɗ ƙ ƴ
